Mailboxes are usually attacked during the night when bored kids gather for sport and drinking. What can be done? Do owners have to stay up all night lying in wait?

Some victims of mailbox vandalism have resorted to actions which may cause more problems than the replacing of a mailbox. Placing glass or spikes in the roadway invites a law suit.

If anything is done to hurt those kids who are out to engage in the nightly sport of mailbox bashing results in death or injury to the kids or neighbors passing by, legal ramifications are sure to result.

You could put up a sign warning that the roadway is covered with glass or spikes. Chances are, however, that the vandals are so high on drugs or so drunk on beer that they won't even be able to read your sign.

Some irate homeowners have suggested filling the mailbox with concrete or bricks so that when the kids come by for batting practice they will end up with a broken arm and certainly a splintered baseball bat. Others have built pillars in which to place their mailboxes. Even your guests and neighbors could damage their vehicles accidently crashing into these structures just by turning around in the road or backing down your driveway.

You may think that the parents of the young vandals would teach their kids a lesson by requiring them to work and pay for the damages. However, that may not be the case. A law suit or an insult to your insurance may be the result.

Likewise, any trap placed in or around the mailbox could injure, and certainly enrage, the mail carrier you are hoping is your friend. So, what is the solution to having a worry-free mailbox and to getting some reasonable sleep on Friday and Saturday nights?

For 16 years people in rural areas have been investing in steel locking mailboxes that are so strong that they cannot be compromised. These are mailboxes that come with pick-proof tubular locks and have been tested against the greatest insults imaginable. Install one of these truly secure mailboxes and never need to invest in another solution for a lifetime. Aren't you tired of the DIY and constant expense involved in replacing you mailbox? Be proactive and spend the money now and cease worrying about you mail and your mailbox.
